RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS WEEK, FEBRUARY 13-17
KINDNESS AND PEACE CHAIN REACTION
“Kindness creates a chain by which people can come together”
Purpose: To do kindness acts for each other, students, teachers, staff and at home.
Objective: Students will be able to examine what it means to be kind through showing kindness to
others.
Discussion: What is kindness? Ask students for examples of how they can be kind. Write those ideas on
the board or on poster paper.
Examples of kindness:
-Smile and say hello to someone new.
-Let someone go ahead of you on the line.
-Leave a nice note for your teacher.
-Pick up litter around the school and put it in the trash can.
-Invite someone playing alone to join your game.
Activity: Create a kindness chain by linking construction paper. Tell the students that by creating a
kindness chain, we’ll be able to see how one act of kindness can start a “chain reaction”.
Record kindness acts on strips of paper and then link them together forming a chain. The students can
write on the paper whenever they did or experienced a kind act. Every time a kind act is performed
another link is added to the chain. The chain can hang around a room or a wall bulletin board. If a
permanent location is not available, you can store the chain in a bag at the end of the day and hang it
the following day.
Materials: Construction paper, scissors, tape, marker.
Optional: You can send a coupon home that says, “Be proud of your child, they have performed a
random act of kindness today”.
